The Lines We Leave Behind by Eliza Graham

Product description:

England, 1947: A young woman finds herself under close observation in an insane asylum, charged with a violent crime she has no memory of committing. As she tries to make sense of her recent past, she recalls very little.

But she still remembers wartime in Yugoslavia. There she and her lover risked everything to carry out dangerous work resisting the Germans—a heroic campaign in which many brave comrades were lost. After that, the trail disappears into confusion. How did she come to be trapped in a living nightmare?

As she struggles to piece together the missing years of her life, she will have to confront the harrowing experiences of her special operations work and peacetime marriage. Only then can she hope to regain the vital memories that will uncover the truth: is she really a violent criminal…or was she betrayed?

My Review

A thrilling war time mystery.

The training beforehand, as well as the mission itself grabbed my attention throughout the book. It was well crafted, with no mistakes I could find, although I was engrossed in the story itself as this isn’t my usual genre.

The main plot was easy to follow and kept me interested, but I could see a sub plot developing. The intrigue of international politics was a surprising addition that added greatly to my enjoyment of the book.
Amber and Maude were my favourite characters, they both had their own difficulties to resolve and I enjoyed watching both of them develop.

I would recommend this book to those interested in WW2 spy stories.

As an author myself I enjoy supporting other writers by reviewing their work, a good investment of the time I put in to finish the book. If you enjoy reading books, I would encourage you to pay it forward by leaving a few words on the site you bought it from. Just one word is enough, although a negative comment would be more helpful with a little explanation. Try it sometime.
